Supporting the Trust

The Trust relies on the generosity of organisations and individuals. Originally founded by the Honourable Company of Gloucestershire, our funding needs have grown as our remit has expanded to include state school libraries and wider reading initiatives.

Our supporters include both long-standing funders—such as the Booker Prize Foundation, the Bodleian Library, and the Ernest Cook Trust—and more recent partners including the Julia Rausing Trust, the Middle Way Trust, the Ashenden Trust, and the Martin Smith Foundation. We also gratefully acknowledge the contributions of many individual donors.

This website highlights projects we have supported since 2016, from dual language books for asylum seeking families to reading initiatives in hospitals and schools with high numbers of Pupil Premium students.

Funders are invited to two annual events: the summer shortlisting event in Gloucester and the Award Ceremony at the Cheltenham Literature Festival. Both offer opportunities to meet award winners, Trustees, judges, and guest speakers.

Award recipients provide impact reports the following year, which are compiled into an annual summary for funders.

Thanks to the David Vaisey Award, we successfully combined creativity and literacy to bring families together, foster a love for learning, and expand the reach of library services into underrepresented and isolated areas. Planning for next year’s festival is already underway, promising even greater impact.
